Performing Arts

One interpretation of the performing arts as intangible cultural heritage, is described by UNESCO as follows:

"The performing arts range from vocal and instrumental music, dance and theatre to pantomime, sung verse and beyond. They include numerous cultural expressions that reflect human creativity and that are also found, to some extent, in many other intangible cultural heritage domains."

Starting Your Search

Be sure you understand what is expected from the paper or research project.  Read and re-read the assignment instructions and syllabus.  When in doubt, talk to your professor.  The more you understand what you need the easier the research process will be.

Finding a topic

  • Pick a topic that interests you

  • As topics catch your interest, read general information in reputable sources

  • Browse available research materials-- don't pick topics with no articles or books that cover the material

Starting Your Library Research

  • Search the library catalog for items related to your topic -- books work too!
  • Search the online databases for articles, books, and videos
  • Remember that you can use Interlibrary Loan
