ENG-413 01 3 Senior Seminar: American Literature

These courses focus on reading, discussion, and research, the summation of which is a twenty five to thirty page thesis in one of three areas: English, American or nonwestern literature.

Time Periods

Native American literature before 1600 can best be described as oral tradition, including epic poems, creation stories, songs, and poetry.  Their literature also includes hieroglyphic writing. The storyteller was counted on to entertain as well as pass on customs and history to his audience. Repetition and symbolism were a major presence in Native American literature.
